What the 2026 World Cup is
The 2026 World Cup is the first edition with 48 national teams and the first hosted by three countries at once: Canada, the United States and Mexico. The group stage splits the teams into 12 groups of four; the top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams go through, producing an opening knockout round of 32 teams.
